Rossi Keeps Firing at Skinner in a Lost Night for Vancouver
Ohgren's first-period goal came off his pass, and no skater on either side got more pucks on net in the 6-2 loss in Winnipeg.
Written during the game · 9:42 PM ET. Final was VAN 2, WPG 6.
The score says Winnipeg ran away with it, but Marco Rossi kept the Canucks in the fight longer than the box score shows. He finished with no goals and one assist, yet he put seven shots on Stuart Skinner, more than any skater on either team.
His chances were good ones. Rossi's shots were worth 0.35 expected goals, which is how many goals an average shooter would score from those looks. That is a fair bit of danger for a player who ended the night without a goal.
His assist came early. At 6:51 of the first, Liam Ohgren cut the deficit to 1-2 with Rossi and Jonathan Lekkerimäki setting him up. Rossi played 13:39, fewer minutes than Brock Boeser, who played 20:02, but he got more shots than anyone.
Skinner stopped 24 of 26 and Winnipeg won 6-2. Rossi was one of the few Vancouver skaters whose night deserved a closer look.
