PRIVACY POLICY

You can use most of Metrics Arena without an account. If you do create one, this page describes what we store and why. The short version: we collect only what the features you use actually need, we run no advertising, and we never sell or share your data for marketing.
Visiting without an account.Standard web server and hosting logs (e.g. IP address, browser type, pages visited) are collected automatically by our hosting provider for security and reliability. Your theme, selected season, and similar display preferences are kept in your browser's local storage and stay on your device. Our analytics (Vercel Web Analytics) is cookieless — it counts visits without tracking you across sites, and we set no advertising cookies of any kind.
If you create an account. We store your email address, an optional display name, and — if you sign up with a password — a securely hashed version of it (we never store or see the password itself). If you sign in with Google, we store your Google account identifier and verified email; we receive nothing else from Google.
Your preferences. If you follow a favourite team or players, choose a default view, or set a timezone for email digests, those choices are stored with your account so the site can personalize scores, pages, and notifications for you. They exist for no other purpose.
Notifications. Everything is opt-in and off by default. If you enable push notifications, we store a per-device push subscription issued by your browser — turning notifications off (or revoking them in your browser) removes it. If you opt into email digests, we send them through our email provider (Resend) and every message carries a working one-click unsubscribe that requires no login. The only other email we send is transactional (e.g. password resets).
AI-generated content. Our recaps, insights, and editorials are generated from hockey data — game statistics, standings, and public reporting. Your personal data is not used to generate content and is never sent to AI providers.
Who processes data on our behalf. We use a small set of infrastructure providers to run the site: Vercel (hosting and cookieless analytics), Neon (database), Upstash (caching), Railway (background data processing), and Resend (email delivery). Each processes data only to provide their service to us.
Third-party data on the site. Game and player statistics come from public NHL APIs. Betting odds, where shown, come from a third-party odds provider and are displayed for information only.
Payments. The site is free and we collect no payment information. There is no billing backend.
Your choices. You can change or clear your favourites and notification settings at any time from your account settings. To have your account and its data deleted, or for any other privacy question or request, contact hello@metricsarena.com and we'll take care of it.
