Jets Pile Up Six on Meriläinen in a Rare Easy Night at Home
Winnipeg earned this one. The Jets had the better chances most of the night and beat Vancouver 6-2. Still, the margin grew wider than the play alone would explain.
By expected goals, which measure what each team's chances were worth, Winnipeg came in at 3.14 and Vancouver at 1.83. That is a clear edge, but not a six-goal night. The rest came from Vancouver's crease. Leevi Meriläinen stopped 23 of 29 shots, and the Jets scored on chances that usually get saved.
At the other end, Stuart Skinner made 24 saves on 26 shots. After an uneven start to his season, he gave Winnipeg a calm finish.
The scoring came from all over. Mark Scheifele and Dawson Mercer each had a goal and an assist. Neal Pionk scored in 24:31 of ice time. Kyle Connor and Dylan DeMelo each set up two goals.
Vancouver's best look never went in. Jake DeBrusk rang a shot off the post. Marco Rossi fired seven shots but did not score.
For a Jets team at 5-8-3 and holding the seventh wildcard spot, this was a second straight win.
