Red Wings Steal a Win in the Oilers' Barn
Postava outduels Jarry, and Arvidsson chips in at both ends of the scoresheet as Detroit escapes Edmonton with the extra point.
Detroit left Edmonton with a 4-3 win on a night the Oilers had the better looks. The difference was in the crease.
Shot attempts were close to even, but Edmonton generated the more dangerous chances. Its shots were worth 3.30 expected goals (how many goals the chances should produce on average), against 2.54 for Detroit. On paper, this was the Oilers' game.
Michal Postava did not let it play out that way. He stopped 25 of 28, including 10 of 13 high-danger shots, and gave Detroit a little more than an average goalie would have. At the other end, Tristan Jarry made 26 saves on 29 shots and let in a bit more than his workload suggested. Edmonton got the chances and Detroit got the saves.
Viktor Arvidsson led the Wings with a goal and an assist, and Lucas Raymond set up two goals. Dylan Larkin scored as well.
The posts also took a toll on the Oilers. Vasily Podkolzin rang iron twice and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins hit it once. Those were three good looks that stayed out of the net.
