DETROIT RED WINGS
TEAM EDITORIAL
The Detroit Red Wings enter the 2026 offseason in an unsettled, holding-pattern moment, with the organization still searching for a new full-time general manager and president of hockey operations after Steve Yzerman’s departure in July. That front-office vacancy has slowed the rest of the summer, leaving the club’s biggest questions unresolved as training camp approaches and the market around the team remains unusually quiet.
Even so, the roster has been reshaped in meaningful ways. Detroit added John Gibson and Daniil Tarasov to the goaltending mix, while the blue line now includes Justin Faulk and Jacob Bernard-Docker alongside core pieces such as Moritz Seider, Simon Edvinsson, and Axel Sandin-Pellikka. Up front, the club is leaning on Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, Alex DeBrincat, and Marco Kasper, with Viktor Arvidsson, Mason Appleton, and James van Riemsdyk giving the forward group a different look after some recent departures.
The biggest cloud remains Larkin’s trade request, which has not been resolved and continues to shape the offseason conversation. Detroit also has important contract and development decisions ahead involving its young defenders and prospects, including Albert Johansson, Michael Brandsegg-Nygård, Nate Danielson, and Michal Postava. For now, the Red Wings are building toward their preseason opener on September 21 against Columbus, but the real story is a franchise waiting for leadership clarity before the season begins.
