Levi Bails Out the Oilers as Edmonton Edges Wild 4-3 in OT
Draisaitl scores twice and the power play cashes in, but Eriksson Ek leaves Rogers Place wondering how more of his looks stayed out
Minnesota had the better chances for most of the night, and Edmonton still walked off with the win. The difference was Devon Levi between the pipes and an Oilers power play that made the most of its looks.
By expected goals, a measure of how many goals a team's chances were worth, the Wild had about 5.53 to Edmonton's 4.00. They also edged the Oilers in shot attempts, 60 to 57. Yet Levi stopped 27 of 30 and gave up far fewer goals than those chances usually produce.
No one tested him more than Joel Eriksson Ek, who fired 8 shots carrying 2.53 expected goals and scored just once.
At the other end, Leon Draisaitl scored twice, Connor McDavid set up three, Evan Bouchard added a goal and an assist, and Edmonton went 3 for 5 on the power play. The Oilers also rang iron three times, so the bounces were not all theirs. Kirill Kaprizov hit iron once for Minnesota, whose 0 for 3 power play didn't help.
