Hutson Logs Team-High Night, Canadiens Lose in Overtime
The Montreal defenceman set up a goal and blocked three shots, but San Jose escaped the Bell Centre with the extra point.
Lane Hutson was on the ice more than anyone else in a Canadiens sweater, and it still ended in a loss. The Sharks won 4-3 in overtime at the Bell Centre.
Hutson played 25:46 over 27 shifts, a team high among all 18 skaters and first among Montreal's six defencemen. He finished with one assist, all of it at even strength, and a plus-1 rating. He put two shots on goal, one at even strength and one on the power play, and added three blocked shots and one hit. He had one giveaway and no penalties.
That fits his season. He has 9 points in 9 games (2 goals, 7 assists) and averages 26.4 minutes, so a night above 25 is normal for him. The three blocks are a good night by his standards, since he has 10 on the year. The power play brought no points from him, though he averages 3.6 minutes there per game.
It was a solid, busy night from Hutson, but it earned Montreal only a point. The Canadiens are now 4-3-1 and the Sharks are 4-4-1.
