Celebrini Carries the Sharks Out of the Bell Centre
San Jose 4, Montréal 3 in overtime. The Canadiens had more of the puck, and the Sharks won anyway.
Montréal fired far more attempts toward the net and outshot San Jose 34-30. But the scoring chances were close to even. In expected goals, a measure of how many goals a team's chances were worth, it was 3.10 for San Jose and 3.03 for Montréal. So this one came down to finishing and goaltending, not pressure.
Macklin Celebrini was the difference. He had two goals and an assist on six shots in 23:07 of ice time. The Sharks' power play went 2-for-3, while Montréal went 0-for-2.
In the San Jose net, Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 31 of 34. At the other end, Jakub Dobes stopped 26 of 30 and allowed a goal more than his workload suggested. Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovský each had two points in a losing cause.
