Dobes Lets One Slip as Canadiens Fall to Sharks in OT
Montréal's goalie faced chances worth about three goals, but the Sharks found the way through, and Celebrini ended it on a power play.
Written during the game · 9:50 PM ET. Final was SJS 4, MTL 3 (OT).
The Canadiens did not lose this one because the Sharks buried them in chances. They lost because Jakub Dobes needed one more stop than he made.
He finished with 26 saves on 30 shots, a save percentage of .867. The scoresheet lists four goals against, including the overtime winner. His expected goals against were 3.10 (how many goals the chances he faced were worth), and he came in at -0.90 goals saved above expected, so he let in nearly a goal more than an average goalie would on those shots.
The rest of the night was close to even. San Jose had 19 high-danger chances to Montréal's 20, and the Canadiens outshot them in attempts, 77-51. They also hit iron four times. Alex Nedeljkovic at the other end saved almost exactly what he was expected to.
No one in front of Dobes handed over a flood of chances. In a game decided by one goal in overtime, the difference came between the pipes. Montréal led 3-1 in the second period and lost 4-3.
