Finnie's Third-Period Tally Helps Red Wings Beat Oilers in a Shootout
The Detroit forward's even-strength goal and a plus two night end with Edmonton's barn going to a shootout, 4-3 for the Wings.
Emmitt Finnie found the twine in the third period and finished a plus 2 as Detroit beat Edmonton 4-3 in a shootout.
The goal came at 4:48 of the third, at even strength, and it was his only shot on goal. He added three hits and played 20:34 over 28 shifts, sixth among the team's 18 skaters and third among Detroit forwards. He had no penalty minutes, takeaways or giveaways.
That is a bit above his usual workload of 17.8 minutes a game. The goal lifts his season total to five goals and three assists in 12 games, and he has scored on five of his 24 shots this season.
The win leaves the Red Wings at 4-4-3 as they chase a wild-card spot, while Edmonton (8-2-1 before this game) was looking to answer its loss to Toronto at home.
