Nylander and the Leafs Bury Edmonton 7-2
The Oilers fired more pucks, but Toronto found the cleaner looks and stretched its winning run to four games.
Toronto left Edmonton with a 7-2 win, even though the Oilers had more of the puck pointed at the net. Edmonton out-attempted the Leafs 68 shot attempts to 59 and threw 42 hits, yet the Leafs got the more dangerous looks. By expected goals, which measure how many goals a team's chances were worth, Toronto led 4.13 to 3.33.
The Leafs then finished well beyond even that edge. William Nylander scored twice on three shots. Jack Roslovic added a goal and an assist, and Zack MacEwen scored in under 10 minutes of ice time. Tristan Jarry allowed six goals on 30 shots.
The bounces did not help Edmonton either. Leon Draisaitl scored twice on seven shots and also hit a post, as did Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Gavin McKenna rang one for Toronto.
The Leafs have now won four straight. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for Edmonton, which still sits first in the West.
