TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
TEAM EDITORIAL
The Maple Leafs enter the 2026 offseason as a reshaped, more aggressive team, with John Chayka taking over as general manager and Jim Hiller replacing Craig Berube behind the bench. The front office has spent the summer trying to harden the roster around Auston Matthews and William Nylander, adding Sergei Bobrovsky, Darren Raddysh, Jack Roslovic, Colton Sissons, Teddy Blueger, Nick Paul, Brandon Duhaime, Zack MacEwen, and Dakota Joshua, while also bringing in depth pieces such as Emil Andrae, Jacob Quillan, Ryan Tverberg, and William Villeneuve. The biggest long-term swing was the first overall pick in the 2026 draft, Gavin McKenna, a move that instantly gave the organization a potential franchise winger to develop alongside its core.
The roster now looks deeper, heavier, and more flexible, though it remains defined by the pressure on the core to deliver. John Tavares is still part of the picture, Morgan Rielly anchors the blue line, and Chris Tanev and Jake McCabe give the defense a veteran edge. Injuries and summer rehab remain part of the story, particularly for Matthews, who has reportedly been working through knee recovery. Training camp will be the first real chance to see how all the new faces fit together before the preseason opener at home against the Montréal Canadiens on September 19.
