Spence Finds the Twine in a Lopsided Loss to San Jose
The Senators defenceman scored and fired often, but Ottawa still fell to a Sharks team that ended its run of overtime and shootout games.
Jordan Spence scored for Ottawa in the third period, but it came in a 6-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks.
The defenceman finished with one goal, four shots on goal, three hits, one takeaway and a plus 1 rating in 17:34 of ice time. That ranked ninth among 18 Senators skaters and fourth among the team's six defencemen. The goal came at even strength at 6:24 of the third, and all four of his shots came at even strength too, on 11 shot attempts.
For Spence, it was a different kind of night. Through 11 games, he has two points and 14 shots this season, and he came into the night averaging 21.6 minutes. He played less than that against the Sharks. He took no penalties and had no giveaways.
Ottawa fell to 7-4-0, and the Sharks won in regulation for the first time this season. Yaroslav Askarov stopped 41 shots for San Jose. Spence's goal was one of the few pucks that got past him.
