Sharks Bury Six in Ottawa While Senators Pepper Askarov
Ottawa fired away all night in its own barn, but Graf, Trouba and San Jose made their looks count against Samuel Ersson.
The Ottawa Senators spent the night firing pucks at the San Jose Sharks net and still went home thumped 6-2. Ottawa outshot San Jose 41-28 and had 91 shot attempts to 55, but the scoreboard told a different story.
Ottawa's chances were the better ones too. By expected goals, a measure of how much the chances were worth, the Senators piled up 5.68 to San Jose's 3.62. They simply could not get enough past Yaroslav Askarov, who made 39 saves on 41 shots.
Fabian Zetterlund, on a line with Claude Giroux and Tim Stützle, put nine shots on goal and came away with only an assist. Stützle and Jordan Spence scored Ottawa's goals.
At the other end, Samuel Ersson stopped 22 of 26 shots. Collin Graf and Jacob Trouba each had a goal and an assist, and Kiefer Sherwood set up two. The Sharks, now 6-4-1 and holding the first wild-card spot in the West, took the points. The bounces went San Jose's way.
