Sanderson Plays Most of the Night, Ends Minus Four in Ottawa Loss

The Senators' blueliner led every skater in ice time as San Jose ran away with a 6-2 win.

By MA Insights

Jake Sanderson was on the ice more than anyone else in a Senators sweater, and it was a rough night to be out there. Ottawa lost 6-2 to San Jose, and Sanderson finished minus 4 without a point.

His 26:09 was a team-high among all 18 skaters and tops among the six Senators defencemen. He took 25 shifts, put two shots on goal, all at even strength, and added one hit, one blocked shot and one takeaway. He also took two penalty minutes and gave the puck away three times.

That is a big jump from his season average of 17.7 minutes a game, though he has played only three games this year. He has two assists on the season and none tonight. The power play brought one shot attempt and nothing else.

Ottawa is 7-4-0 and still in the playoff race. This was a night where the most-used defenceman went home on the wrong side of the scoreboard.
