Holtz Keeps Finding Room but Can't Solder the Finish in St. Louis
Vegas forward still set up Howden's goal in a 6-2 loss to the Blues, with Karlsson on the same line-mate list
Written during the game · 10:39 PM ET. Final was VGK 2, STL 6.
Alexander Holtz got the best looks of any skater on the ice in St. Louis, and he still finished without a goal. The chances he created were good ones, and they just didn't end up on the scoresheet.
Holtz fired five shots on goal, and his chances were worth about 0.67 expected goals (how many goals the quality of his shots should produce). No other skater on either team came close to that figure. Next best was Justin Barron of the Blues at 0.35.
He did not leave empty-handed. Holtz picked up an assist on Brett Howden's goal in the second period, which cut the Blues' lead to 2-1 for the time being. Howden has played with William Karlsson over the last five games, and Holtz's night fit around that group's work in the game.
Holtz played 14:04. The Blues' Joel Hofer stopped 27 of 29 shots in the game, and Vegas lost 6-2. Holtz's night was productive even without the goal.
