Rodrigues and Noesen Lead Devils' Supporting Cast in 7-1 Romp
New Jersey's third line pitched in all night, and the Rangers, still second in the Metropolitan, could muster only one reply.
The New Jersey Devils beat the New York Rangers 7-1, and the scoring did not come only from the top of the lineup. Three of the seven goals came from New Jersey's depth players, a real depth-scoring night.
The third line of Evan Rodrigues, Stefan Noesen and Anthony Mantha led the way. Rodrigues had a goal and an assist. Noesen scored on three shots and also rang one off the iron, so his night could have been bigger. On the fourth line, Amadeus Lombardi added two assists.
The margin was earned. New Jersey outshot New York 31-19 and had the better looks throughout. On expected goals, a measure of how many goals a team's chances were worth, the Devils led 3.08 to 1.71. The Rangers' lone goal came from Pavel Dorofeyev.
For the 3-3-0 Devils, who sit in the wild-card picture, it was a full-roster win.
