Dorofeyev Finds the Twine for Rangers in Newark Blowout
Adam Fox and Lafrenière set up the lone New York goal on a power play as the Devils pulled well clear in a 7-1 final.
Written during the game · 9:47 PM ET. Final was NYR 1, NJD 7.
Pavel Dorofeyev was the one Ranger who kept getting good looks in a 7-1 loss to the Devils, and the box score only half shows it. He scored the lone New York goal and fired five shots on goal, the most of any Ranger.
His chances were worth more than his one goal. His expected goals -- how many his chances were worth -- came to 0.52, the best mark on the Rangers. The next closest Ranger on that list was Oliver Bjorkstrand at 0.39.
The goal came in the third period, 8:02 in, with the Rangers on the power play. Adam Fox and Alexis Lafrenière assisted, and it cut the deficit to 6-1. Dorofeyev played 18:58, on a line with J.T. Miller and Tye Kartye.
The Rangers were down 0-6 when he scored, so it did not change the game. It did show that New York still had dangerous chances in a night when Nico Daws stopped 18 of 19 shots, and Dorofeyev was the forward most often in position to take them.
