Canucks Escape in OT After Oilers’ Traffic Jam
Lankinen steadies Vancouver while a Draisaitl post and Edmonton’s crease misstep swing it
The Vancouver Canucks stole this in overtime even as the Edmonton Oilers drove most of the night. Edmonton owned the shot attempts at 62.1% and created chances worth about 5.58 expected goals to Vancouver’s roughly 2.17, but the finish belonged to the visitors.
That story showed up at the posts and in the crease. Leon Draisaitl clipped iron once, denying a prime look, while Kevin Lankinen absorbed volume — 32 saves on 37 shots — to keep Vancouver in range. At the other end, Tristan Jarry couldn’t match it, stopping 17 of 23, and Vancouver cashed their best looks when they appeared.
Individual impact cut both ways. For Edmonton, Evan Bouchard (three goals, two assists) and Vasily Podkolzin (two goals, seven shots) pushed the attack. Vancouver answered with Paul Cotter (two goals), Max Sasson (goal, assist) and Filip Hronek (two assists) tilting key moments.
One game, clear identities: Vancouver’s aggressive finishing punished small openings; Edmonton’s territorial edge needs more finish — and a save — to translate control into results.
