Connor Strikes Twice as Jets Finally Solve Fowler in Overtime
Barron chips in a goal and a helper as sliding Winnipeg cools off red-hot Montréal at the Bell Centre
Winnipeg had the puck going the right way nearly all night, yet needed overtime to escape the Bell Centre with a 5-4 win. Only one man made it that close: Jacob Fowler.
The Jets outshot Montréal 47-22, more than two to one. Their chances were worth 5.92 expected goals (how many goals those looks would usually produce), against just 2.6 for the Canadiens. Fowler made 42 saves and stopped all 16 of Winnipeg's high-danger chances.
Kyle Connor finished the job with two goals on eight shots. Morgan Barron added a goal and an assist, and Mark Scheifele set up two. At the other end, Stuart Skinner stopped 18 of 22. Montréal's power play scored twice in four chances, and Cole Caufield scored twice. Adam Engstrom also rang one off the post.
The win ends a rough slide for Winnipeg, which sits 5-8-3. Montréal remains 9-3-3.
