Robertson Carries Stars Past Capitals in 6-5 Track Meet
Washington fired more pucks and kept beating Oettinger, but neither Capitals goalie could slow the Dallas finishers.
Dallas won a wild one in Washington, 6-5, and it was not because the Stars had the puck more or got the saves. The Capitals kept firing and kept answering. Dallas simply finished better.
Washington took 58 shot attempts to Dallas's 47. That is a 55.2% share of all attempts. Shots on goal also went the Capitals' way, 25-23. Jake Oettinger stopped 20 of 25. His -2.50 goals saved above expected means he let in about two and a half more goals than an average goalie would have allowed on those shots. This win came from the shooters, not the crease.
The main shooter was Jason Robertson: three goals and an assist on five shots. His linemate Roope Hintz added a goal and two helpers. Washington's goalies had a rough night of their own. Logan Thompson allowed four goals on 11 shots, and Charlie Lindgren gave up two on 12.
The posts got involved at both ends. Matt Roy rang one for Washington, and Radek Faksa did the same for Dallas.
