Karlsson Scores Early, but Penguins Fall in Montréal
The Pittsburgh defenceman piled up three points and led all Penguins skaters in ice time, yet Montréal held on for the 5-4 win.
Erik Karlsson had a three-point night in Montréal, and Pittsburgh still lost 5-4 to the Canadiens.
The defenceman scored a power-play goal at 2:08 of the first period and added two assists, finishing plus 1 with four shots on goal. His 23:37 of ice time was the most of any Penguins skater and the most among the team's six defencemen.
It was not a clean night. He had three giveaways against one takeaway, and no hits or blocked shots. The giveaways fit his season, which includes 27 of them in 14 games.
The goal came on the power play, where he now has two goals this season. Three points in one game is well above his season pace of 16 points in 14 games.
Pittsburgh drops to the road side of its season, where it came in at 1-5-1. Karlsson's production was not enough to change that.
