DeBrincat Rattles the Iron Twice, Red Wings Still Pull Away From Chicago
Posts kept Detroit's early push off the board, then Arvidsson's hat trick and a late empty-netter finished the job at home.
Written during the game · 10:10 PM ET. Final was CHI 1, DET 4.
The final score says Detroit won comfortably, but the posts nearly wrote a different game for Chicago. In the 2nd period, the Red Wings hit iron three times, all posts: Alex DeBrincat at 5:45, Keegan Kolesar at 6:59, and DeBrincat again at 10:49. Chicago hit none.
The first two came within about 90 seconds of each other. Detroit did tie it at 5:59... no, at 7:31 in the period, when Viktor Arvidsson scored to make it 1-1, but the third post arrived later, with the game still level.
Detroit's chances were worth about 5.85 expected goals (how many goals the quality of the shots suggests) against 2.5 for Chicago. That gap is why the posts matter: a bounce or two the other way and the margin looks bigger.
Spencer Knight faced 28 shots and allowed three. John Gibson stopped 18 of 19. Arvidsson finished with three goals, and DeBrincat added two assists without a goal of his own.
