Bedard Keeps Knocking for Chicago in a Win With No Goal Of His Own
Kantserov cashes the power-play tying goal off a Bedard pass, and Kaiser's go-ahead strike seals the Blackhawks' 2-1 win over the Kings.
Written during the game · 11:31 PM ET. Final was LAK 1, CHI 2.
Connor Bedard never reached the scoresheet's loud column, but his chances were among the best Chicago had in a 2-1 win over the Kings. His one assist was the only mark the box score gave him.
That assist came on the power play in the second period, when Roman Kantserov tied the game at 1-1. Bedard also had three shots on goal in 19:21 of ice time.
His chances were worth 0.73 expected goals, which is how many goals an average shooter would score from those looks. That is nearly three-quarters of a goal from a player who did not score. Among the Blackhawks listed in the game's top five for that number, nobody was higher. Alex Laferriere of the Kings had 0.97.
He played with Patrick Kane and Kantserov over the last five games. Kantserov finished with the goal and four shots on goal.
The Kings kept pace in chances, with high-danger looks even at 22 apiece. Spencer Knight made 25 saves on 26 shots to protect the lead after Wyatt Kaiser went ahead in the third. The Blackhawks are now 4-8-0.
