Kaprizov and Hughes Power the Wild Past the Canucks 4-2
Minnesota cashes in on the power play while Kaprizov and Eriksson Ek ring the iron in a game that was never as close as the score
The Minnesota Wild won by two goals in Vancouver. On the run of play, it could have been many more.
Minnesota outshot the Canucks almost two to one, 34 to 18, and its looks were far more dangerous. Expected goals measure how many goals a team's chances were worth. The Wild's chances added up to 5.38, against 1.94 for Vancouver.
The gap could have been wider still. Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek each rang a shot off the iron. Kaprizov still finished with a goal and an assist.
Quinn Hughes also had a goal and an assist in 26:10 of ice time. Max Shabanov added a goal and a helper of his own.
Michael McCarron and Eriksson Ek each put five shots on net. Bobby Brink scored, and the power play went 2 for 5.
Vancouver drew just one power play and never got going. For the Canucks, the final score was the kindest part of the night.
