Scheifele Peppers Montréal's Net but Leaves Empty-Handed
Winnipeg's forward logged the most ice time among its forwards at the Heritage Classic, and the Jets still fell to the Canadiens by a single goal.
Mark Scheifele pushed the puck at Montréal all night and had nothing to show for it on the scoresheet. The Jets lost 2-1 to the Canadiens in the Heritage Classic, and he finished with no goals, no assists and an even plus/minus.
He played 25:04 over 22 shifts, second among Winnipeg's 18 skaters and first among its 12 forwards. He put seven shots on goal: four at even strength and three on the power play. He also had three hits and two takeaways, with no giveaways and no penalties.
Seven shots is a big jump for him. He had 25 shots in his first 11 games this season, so this one game accounted for a large share of that total. His season line is two goals and six assists in 11 games, and this was another night when the shots did not turn into goals.
Winnipeg is 4-3-3 and holds the third wild-card spot. The Jets have now scored two or fewer in three straight games, and Scheifele's shot volume could not change that.
