Robertson Buries Two as Penguins Snap Their Skid Against Florida
Silovs blanks the Panthers, Malkin chips in a goal, and Pittsburgh ends a four-game slide at home
Pittsburgh ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over Florida. The Panthers threw more pucks at the net and still never scored.
Florida outshot Pittsburgh 25-21 and had more shot attempts, 52-43. The Penguins made their looks count. Nicholas Robertson scored two goals on two shots, playing on a line with Connor Dewar, who set up two, and Elmer Soderblom. Evgeni Malkin and Hendrix Lapierre each had a goal and an assist.
The shutout was no gift. Florida's chances were worth 2.28 expected goals, meaning they should have scored about twice. Arturs Silovs stopped all 25 shots he faced, including all 10 from close in. Our goals-saved-above-expected measure, which compares saves to the quality of the shots faced, credits him with 2.28.
Florida also hit iron twice. Sam Reinhart rang one off the iron on a night he put five shots on goal, and Aaron Ekblad did the same. A bounce or two the other way, and the score would have looked much closer.
