Ovechkin Stays Off the Scoresheet as Kings Hand Capitals a Home Loss
Los Angeles snaps its winless start with a 5-2 win in D.C., and Washington's Ovechkin finishes a minus player.
Alex Ovechkin had a quiet night in a game Washington lost at home. The Capitals fell 5-2 to the Los Angeles Kings, who arrived winless, and Ovechkin finished without a point.
He played 16:21 over 19 shifts, which ranked 10th among the team's 18 skaters and sixth among its 12 forwards. He put two shots on goal, added two hits and finished minus-1. All of his shots came at even strength, where he had four shot attempts. On the power play he had one attempt and no shot on goal.
That is a bit more ice time than his season average of 14.2 minutes a game. The night did not bring the scoring, though. Through nine games he has one goal and three assists, and he went without a point here.
For Washington, now 5-3-0 and holding a wildcard spot, the loss ended a two-game winning streak.
