Sherwood Fires Away, Finds No Twine in Sharks' Shootout Win
San Jose escapes Nashville 3-2 after the extra session, with Sherwood's five shots and three hits the story of a pointless night.
Kiefer Sherwood did not reach the score sheet in the Sharks' 3-2 shootout win at Nashville, but he was in the thick of it. The forward played 19:15 over 25 shifts, sixth among San Jose's 18 skaters and fourth among its 12 forwards.
He put 5 shots on goal, which is nearly half of the 11 he had managed through the first seven games of the season. Four of those came at even strength and one on the penalty kill. He added 3 hits and 1 blocked shot, and he had one giveaway. He finished with no goals, no assists and an even plus-minus.
That is a step up from his usual workload: he averages 15.4 minutes a game this season. He has just 1 goal and 1 assist in seven games, so the shot volume was a departure even without a point to show for it.
The win moves San Jose to 4-3-0, and the Sharks remain in the playoff race. Sherwood's night was busy and physical, just not decisive.
