Golden Knights Cash In While Penguins Pile Up Shots
Pittsburgh had more of the puck going toward the net, but Vegas made its chances hurt. The Golden Knights won 6-2 at home.
The Penguins outshot Vegas 24-18 and fired more pucks overall, yet only two got past Adin Hill. He made 22 saves, including 9 on the 11 high-danger looks he faced. At the other end, Vegas scored on five of its 18 shots against Sergei Murashov, with scoring coming from all over the lineup. Defencemen Noah Hanifin and Rasmus Andersson each scored, and Brett Howden and Trevor Connelly also found the net. Raphael Lavoie even rang a post.
The gap was smaller than the score. By expected goals — how many goals each team's chances were worth — Vegas led just 2.74 to 2.33. Vegas had slightly better looks, and the bounces did the rest.
For Vegas, now 7-2-0 and first in the West, that is a strong night. For Pittsburgh, at 3-4-1, the effort was there; the finish was not.
