Rangers Solve Daccord and Escape Seattle 4-3
The Kraken threw more pucks at the net, but New York's sharper looks and Korpisalo's busy night sent the Rangers home with the points.
Seattle threw more at the net, but the New York Rangers had the better looks, and that decided a 4-3 road win.
The Kraken outattempted New York 65 to 54 in total shot attempts. But the Rangers' chances were worth more: 3.29 expected goals (how many goals their chances were worth) to Seattle's 2.65. Seattle had the volume. New York had the quality.
The hidden story is in the Seattle crease. Philipp Grubauer stopped 15 of 16, but Joey Daccord gave up three goals on ten shots, more than those chances deserved. The bounces went New York's way once he was in.
At the other end, Joonas Korpisalo turned aside 26 of 29 and let in about what Seattle's chances earned. That is solid, not spectacular, but it was enough with the Rangers finishing.
Pavel Dorofeyev and Tye Kartye scored. Alexis Lafrenière and Mika Zibanejad, on a line with Gabe Perreault, had two assists each. For Seattle, Vince Dunn fired six shots and scored, Jordan Eberle also scored, and Berkly Catton set up two. Nobody hit a post or crossbar.
