Burns Blocks Three, but Columbus Buries Colorado
The Avalanche defenceman finished a minus night on the road as the Blue Jackets ran away with it at home.
Brent Burns spent 18:11 on the ice in Colorado's 7-2 loss at Columbus, and the night was about shot-blocking, not scoring. He had no points, no shots on goal and finished minus one, with three blocked shots over 25 shifts.
That ice time ranked eighth among the Avalanche skaters and fifth among their six defencemen, so it was not a team-high workload. At even strength, he had seven shot attempts and none reached the net.
For the season, Burns has six assists and no goals through 16 games, and he averages 16.5 minutes. Three blocks is a solid night against his season total of 20, so this was a busy defensive night rather than a big offensive one.
Colorado came in 9-5-1 and riding a three-game winning streak, on the second game of back-to-back road contests. Columbus, 5-7-0 coming in, handed them a lopsided loss.
