Coyle Piles Up Four Points as Blue Jackets Bury Colorado
Columbus pulled away in the middle period, and Coyle scored in the 2nd and again in the 3rd as the Avalanche never caught up.
Written during the game · 12:00 AM ET. Final was COL 2, CBJ 7.
Charlie Coyle did a bit of everything for Columbus in the 7-2 win over Colorado: two goals and two assists, and a hand in four of the seven goals. The Blue Jackets were already ahead when the game began to slip away from the Avalanche, and he kept adding to it.
The forward set up Mathieu Olivier for the opening goal at 0:28 of the 1st, then assisted on Jake Christiansen's goal in the 2nd. He scored at 12:03 of the 2nd, which made it 5-1. His next goal came at 11:21 of the 3rd, making it 7-2.
The chances behind those goals were real. Coyle put three shots on goal, and they were worth 0.90 expected goals (how many goals his chances should produce on average), second only to Kent Johnson among the skaters listed. He scored twice and set up two more, with 20:18 of ice time.
The score was lopsided, but Columbus also had more high-danger chances than Colorado. Coyle was in the middle of that.
