Caufield Snipes Twice as Canadiens Win in Dallas
Newhook adds a pair of his own on the same line, and Dobes handles the rest as Montréal leaves Dallas with a 5-2 win.
Montréal won 5-2 in Dallas, and the margin was earned. The Canadiens had the better looks all night, and the scoreboard simply caught up.
Their chances were worth 4.35 expected goals (how many goals those looks would normally produce), more than double what Dallas generated. Montréal also took more shot attempts, 45 to 38.
Cole Caufield led the way with two goals on three shots. His own looks were worth 1.05 expected goals. These were good chances buried, not fluky ones. On a line with Alex Newhook and Juraj Slafkovský, he had help. Newhook scored twice on just two shots, and that is where the bounces leaned Montréal's way.
Between the pipes, Jakub Dobes stopped 17 of 19. It was solid, not a night that asked for heroics.
The iron went both ways. Adam Engstrom and Jason Robertson each rang a post.
