Fowler Shuts the Door on a Barrage in St. Louis
Montréal's goalie stops every shot he sees as the Canadiens leave St. Louis with a 2-0 road win and a shutout in the books.
Jacob Fowler was the story in St. Louis. He stopped all 46 shots he faced across 59:38 of ice time, and Montréal beat the Blues 2-0.
The Blues threw a lot at him, and the chances were good ones. By expected goals, which is how many goals those shots would normally be worth, St. Louis should have scored about 4.42 times. Fowler allowed none, so he saved about 4.42 goals more than an average goalie would have on that workload.
That is a big night even against his own numbers. His season save percentage sits at .940 over seven appearances, and this was one of his two shutouts on the year.
The Blues, 5-6-1 and still in the playoff race, had the shots to get back in it. Fowler gave them nothing to work with. Montréal needed only two goals because he never let one back.
