Reimer Rocked as Kings Spoil the Rangers' Perfect Garden Run
Doughty piles up points while J.T. Miller rings iron and fires all night in a game far closer than the final suggests
The Los Angeles Kings won 6-3 at Madison Square Garden, but this was not a beating. It was a close game that one team finished and the other did not.
Shots were 26-25, and shot attempts were split almost down the middle. The Kings had slightly better looks: their expected goals (how many goals their chances were worth) came to 3.42 against 2.82 for New York. That edge is worth about half a goal, not three.
The gap came in the crease. Darcy Kuemper stopped 22 of 25. Dylan Garand made 15 of 17 saves, then James Reimer gave up three goals on eight shots.
J.T. Miller fired six shots and scored once for the Rangers, and he and Pavel Dorofeyev each rang a post. Four pucks hit iron in total. Drew Doughty had three points on a single shot.
New York's home record falls to 6-1-0, with a three-game losing streak.
