Penguins Outlast Predators 3-2 in Overtime After Clanging the Pipes
Korczak finds metal, Saros keeps Nashville alive, and Rakell, Dewar and Koivunen finally solve him at home.
Pittsburgh had the puck far more often and kept hitting metal, yet still needed overtime to get past Nashville 3-2.
The Penguins piled up 73 shot attempts to 45 and outshot the Predators 37-26. But the quality of looks was close to even. Both teams' expected goals, which measure how many goals their chances were worth, came in around four: 4.06 for Pittsburgh and 3.92 for Nashville. Pittsburgh had more of the puck, but Nashville's fewer chances were just as dangerous.
What tipped it was iron. The Penguins hit the post twice and the crossbar twice. Kaedan Korczak rang it twice himself, and Declan Carlile and Kris Letang found metal once each.
Juuse Saros made 34 saves. Arturs Silovs answered with 24 saves on 26 shots. Rickard Rakell, Connor Dewar and Ville Koivunen scored for Pittsburgh. Steven Stamkos scored for Nashville.
The Penguins move to 5-6-1 and are now 4-1-0 at home.
