Burns Quietly Fills the Defensive Ledger in Colorado's Win Over Tampa Bay
The Avalanche blueliner stays off the scoresheet while the home side snaps a two-game skid with a 6-3 win over the Lightning.
Brent Burns did not figure in the scoring as Colorado beat Tampa Bay 6-3 at home, but his line was busy: 18:15 of ice time over 24 shifts, one shot on goal, two hits, two blocked shots and two takeaways, with no giveaways and no penalty minutes.
That ice time ranked sixth among the team's 18 skaters and fourth among the club's six defencemen. He finished minus one with no points, and his one shot on goal came at even strength, where he put up three shot attempts in all.
Against his season, it was a tidy night. In 11 games he has three assists, no goals, and 10 giveaways against four takeaways. Tonight the ledger ran the other way: two takeaways, none given away. His ice time was a little above his season average of 16.3 minutes per game.
The win ended a two-game losing streak for Colorado, now 5-4-1, while the Lightning dropped to 7-2-0. Burns did the small things and left the scoring to others.
