Sherwood Throws His Weight Around in Sharks' Toronto Loss
San Jose's Kiefer Sherwood leaves a mark with the body but not the scoresheet as the Leafs take it 3-1 at Scotiabank Arena.
Kiefer Sherwood did his work with his body in Toronto, not with the puck. The Sharks forward finished with no points and no shots on goal, but he piled up three hits and a takeaway in 13:23 of ice time as San Jose fell 3-1 to the Maple Leafs.
That ice time ranked 15th among 18 San Jose skaters and 10th among the team's 12 forwards. He played 19 shifts, took two penalty minutes, and had one giveaway to go with his one takeaway. His only shot attempt came at even strength, and it did not reach the net.
It fit a season that has been light on offence: one goal and one assist through nine games, with 49 hits, and a minus-4 rating. His 13:23 sat a little under his usual 14.9 minutes a game.
San Jose is 4-3-1, still in the wildcard mix. Toronto, at 3-4-2, got the win.
