Devils Hit Traffic, Capitals Hit the Scoreboard
Gritsyuk's opener is the only thing New Jersey has to show for a busy night in Washington, and Logan Thompson has turned aside every high-danger look.

The Devils have had the better of the chances in Washington, and the scoreboard says otherwise. New Jersey trails 1-2 with 16:45 left in the 2nd, after the Capitals scored on their first real looks: a power-play goal from Ryan Leonard and an even-strength goal from Ilya Protas.
New Jersey leads in shot attempts, 24-16, and in high-danger chances, 8-2. Logan Thompson has stopped all four high-danger shots he has faced, while Jake Allen has stopped one of two. Expected goals, which is how many the chances were worth, sits at 1.19 for the Devils and 0.9 for Washington. It is early, and a lead is still a lead.
