Skinner Turns Back Avalanche Push in Winnipeg’s Comeback
A late string of saves kept the Jets within reach as Colorado controlled play, but the score favoured Winnipeg at the final buzzer
Stuart Skinner kept the Jets in it and ultimately decided the game.
Skinner finished the night with 92 saves on 100 shots against for a .920 save percentage and a 2.62 goals-against average across his three starts this season (3 games started, 2 wins, 1 overtime loss).
He did more than simply face shots — he prevented goals the model thought were likely. That shows up as +2.97 goals saved above expected on the season, meaning his stops exceeded the quality of chances he faced. He’s also been strong on tough chances, posting a high-danger save rate of 0.84, so the difficult chances Colorado generated didn’t translate into goals.
Meanwhile Colorado owned more of the shot attempts and better-looking chances, but those edges didn’t translate to the final score. In plain terms: the Avalanche generated the better looks, but Skinner’s late stops erased that advantage and let Winnipeg’s comeback stand.
This was a night where goaltending overrode the counts — the scoreboard honored timely saves, not possession.
