Skinner Steals It for Jets as Avalanche Ring Iron Twice
Colorado carried the play but couldn’t solve a hot glove, and two near-misses off the post loomed large.
Winnipeg won a game that felt tilted the other way.
Colorado generated the better chances overall — their expected goals edged Winnipeg’s, 2.85 to 2.21, meaning the Avalanche’s looks were worth more in quality. The difference was Stuart Skinner, who stopped 32 of 34 and added 0.85 goals saved above expected — extra stops beyond what an average night would yield. The margin for bounces showed up too: Martin Necas and Nathan MacKinnon each hit the post, and those misses kept the door open for the Jets.
The Avalanche outshot the Jets 34-19 and led in shot attempts 69-50, but Winnipeg cashed the key looks. Kyle Connor finished twice, Mark Scheifele set up two, and Cole Perfetti added the other goal. For Colorado, Fedor Svechkov and Jaden Schwartz each had a goal and an assist to keep it tight.
If you’re hunting for the why, this was it: the Avalanche owned the chance share and iron, but the bounces — and Skinner — went Winnipeg’s way.
