Rookie Playmaker Turns Sharks' Chances into a Win
Celebrini's vision and Smith's finishing, backed by Askarov's composed night, decided San Jose's opener
By MA Insights
Macklin Celebrini made his NHL arrival a team story: his three assists created the look that led to the overtime winner and fueled Will Smith's finishes, while Yaroslav Askarov steadied the net with 23 saves. He finished with seven shots and about 23 minutes of ice time. Celebrini also tilted the quality of San Jose's chances when he was on the ice: his teammates' chances were worth far more than the opposition's, and he helped generate seven high-danger chances while limiting three against.
