Jankowski Rings the Iron on a Night Carolina Couldn't Miss
Carolina was the better team from start to finish in a 9-2 win over Chicago, and the finishing still ran hotter than the chances. By expected goals, which measure what each team's chances were worth, the Hurricanes created about 4.39 goals of danger to Chicago's 1.74. They outplayed the Blackhawks by more than two to one, then scored more than twice what those chances were worth.
It could have been worse. Mark Jankowski rang the iron twice, and the Hurricanes outshot Chicago 32-20.
Andrei Svechnikov led the push with two goals on five shots. He played on a line with Sebastian Aho and William Carrier, who added three points and two assists. Defencemen Shayne Gostisbehere and Alexander Nikishin, who played together, each had a goal and an assist.
For Chicago, Connor Bedard had a goal and an assist and also hit iron. Pyotr Kochetkov made 18 saves on 20 shots. The league's best team rolls on, and the Blackhawks are still searching for their first road win.
