Carter Hart Steals One for Vegas in Detroit
Neither team earned this one more than the other, so it came down to the goalie who stopped a little more. Vegas and Detroit generated almost exactly the same quality of looks. In expected goals, a measure of how many goals a team's chances were worth, Vegas finished at 3.79 and Detroit at 3.74. The Golden Knights won 2-1 because Carter Hart did not let Detroit cash in.
Hart stopped 25 of 26 shots. His goals saved above expected was +2.74, which means he kept out nearly three more goals than an average goalie would have on those same chances. Daniil Tarasov was sharp at the other end, making 32 saves on 34 shots, but he could not match Hart.
Braeden Bowman and Trevor Connelly scored for Vegas. Anton Johansson scored Detroit's only goal. Viktor Arvidsson led the Red Wings with the most dangerous chances of the night and fired four shots, but none went in. Brett Howden, on a line with Jack Eichel and Mark Stone, hit a post for Vegas.
The win extends Vegas's winning streak to two at 11-5-2, second in the Pacific. Detroit drops to 7-7-3 and has now lost two straight.
