Jarry Bolts the Crease Shut on the Islanders
The 4-0 final makes it look like Edmonton ran away with it, but the gap between these teams was mostly in the crease. The Oilers had somewhat better chances, edging the shot attempts 49-40 and outshooting New York 24-18. Then Tristan Jarry stopped everything, and Ilya Sorokin didn't.
Jarry made 18 saves, including every dangerous look the Islanders got. By goals saved above expected (goals prevented beyond what the chances should have produced), he was +2.05. New York got close only when Matthew Kessel rang the iron.
At the other end, Sorokin made 20 saves on 24 shots and came in at -1.59 by the same measure. That means he let in more than Edmonton's chances deserved.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored twice and also hit iron, while Leon Draisaitl set up two goals. For the first-place Oilers, the bounces went their way as they kept their unbeaten road record intact.
