Sorokin Posts Shutout as Islanders Roll

A perfect night in net holds up for New York in a convincing home win over New Jersey

Ilya Sorokin stopped everything he faced in a complete-game shutout, finishing with 37 saves on 37 shots over 60:00 as the Islanders won 6-0. The box score tells the story: he allowed 0 goals, produced a 1.00 game save percentage, and recorded 3.95 goals saved above expected against an expected-goals-against of 3.95, a sign he outdueled the quality of chances the Devils generated.

This outing is reflected in his early-season totals: through 2 starts he has 61 saves on 63 shots, a .970 season save percentage, a 1.02 goals-against average and 1 shutout. For this game specifically, Sorokin shouldered the full workload and turned aside every attempt, giving New York a textbook shutout performance to anchor a decisive home victory.
