Panthers Rattle the Posts and Still Leave Chicago With a 3-2 Win
Florida had the better looks for most of Sunday's game and had to settle for a narrow 3-2 win. On a cleaner night, the Panthers would have won by more.
The gap shows up first in shots on goal: 32-20 for Florida. It also shows up in chance quality. Florida's chances were worth 4.66 expected goals (how many goals its looks would usually produce), compared with 3.35 for Chicago.
The iron kept the score close. Florida hit it four times: three posts and one crossbar. Carter Verhaeghe found metal twice, and Matthew Tkachuk and Seth Jones once each. Tkachuk scored anyway, and Lars Eller and Sandis Vilmanis also scored.
At the other end, Akira Schmid stopped 18 of 20. Chicago went 0 for 7 on the power play, and Ryan Greene and Roman Kantserov were the only Blackhawks to beat him. The win snaps Florida's two-game skid and lifts the Panthers to 5-4-2.
