Fowler Holds the Fort as Canadiens Win 4-1 in Chicago
The gap between the two creases decided this one. Jacob Fowler gave up one goal, and Spencer Knight gave up three. That carried Montréal to a 4-1 win in Chicago.
Fowler stopped 20 of 21 shots. He also turned aside all 10 of Chicago's shots from the most dangerous areas. Only Connor Bedard solved him. Knight made 24 saves on 27 shots in a busier night. The Canadiens outshot Chicago 28-21.
The Habs earned the result with the better looks all night. Their chances were worth 3.26 expected goals, a measure of how dangerous the shots were, against Chicago's 2.07. Mike Matheson led Montréal with three shots and scored. Jake Evans added two goals.
The posts and crossbars were busy too, rung four times. Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovský hit iron for Montréal. Jordan Greenway and Ryan Donato did the same for Chicago. Neither power play scored.
