Grubauer Steals Two Points From the Red Wings
Detroit spent the night looking like the better team in Seattle and still left with nothing. The Kraken won 4-3 after needing more than 60 minutes, and the scoreboard hid how lopsided the run of play was.
The Red Wings took far more shot attempts and generated the better looks. By expected goals, a measure of what those chances were worth, Detroit's added up to 3.41 against Seattle's 2.62. Detroit had more of the chances that usually go in. Seattle got more of the ones that actually did.
Philipp Grubauer was the difference. He stopped 22 of 25 and came out +0.41 in goals saved above expected, meaning he kept out more than an average goalie would have. At the other end, Daniil Tarasov stopped 24 of 27.
Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat each had a goal and an assist, with Dylan Larkin setting up two. DeBrincat also rang one off the iron, as did Mackie Samoskevich, who still scored for Seattle.
